Central and Habour line commencing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or Victoria Terminus to Fort area, also toward northeast through Thane and divert at Kalyan for Nashik and Pune. Habour line diverted at Wadla Road for Andheri and Panvel.

Although there are different zones but linkage available to change and travel on different lines without having to purchase a different ticket for different line.

One can purchase a ticket from ticket booking point of origination to the point of destination at the same time even on different lines and can purchase a return ticket also if there is planning for that in the same day, in case of return tickets of Friday validity is a bit more.

Overview of Local Trains Working Hours

Train services starting at approximately 4 AM in the early morning everyday and finishes up at 1 AM approximately next midnight, while some end at 2:30 AM. This is the timing when trains start at starting point and ends up at destination and not the last train from every station.

Ticketing and Coaches

There is machine called ATVM available on station to purchase tickets. Smart card is also valid to pay in ATVM which one can purchase from station booking offices and can recharge it, as and when needed. Smart card gives 5% extra at the recharge. JTBs are counters outside station where ticket can be bought by paying Re. 1 per ticket extra.

Passengers should note that without ticket travelling is very difficult in local trains as Indian Railways have very expert arrangements to deal with such people and it is not easy for one to escape even at occasions and very much needed. Travelling without a ticket is a punishable offence and social evil also for the society and life in Mumbai.

Trains have 9, 12 and 15 coaches, consisting of first class, second class and reserved compartment e.g. for ladies.

There is a class, general first class but generally gents travels in this, general compartment which is open for all. Ladies first class for ladies and male children up to age of 13 open for all between 11:15 PM and 6:30 AM. Ladies compartment for ladies open for all between 11:15 PM and 6:30 AM.

Also a handicap and cancer patient compartment as well as senior citizen coach for both genders, and luggage compartment for heavy luggage.
